A closer reading
An occasion ends. Its materials begin another life.
Material afterlife
Envelope.Garment.Memory.Celebration leaves a material life behind: envelopes, cards, cloth and the small remnants of clothes made for an occasion.
In this work, discarded wedding materials become the structure rather than its decoration. The envelopes determine how the book opens in several directions, while garment and tailoring fragments carry the textures of making and celebration in Pakistan into a new, intimate form.
The composition is maximalist without being predetermined. Its flip-flop construction turns reading into movement across the front, middle and reverse. Small planners, hidden paper clips, floating pockets and removable writing pads make preservation participatory: the reader can add another layer of use.
